Subsurface heating through conduction and convection is far more efficient than top down electric radiant heat or gas flame impingement. Even more significant than the efficiency gain is the avoidance of melt loss through oxidation that is typically caused by top down heating. Refractory life is extended due to their lower temperatures and metal quality is maintained during hold and transport.
BSPP
Baffle and Side Pocket Panel (BSPP) Heating Systems consist of precision cast refractory shapes with internal heat producing elements. The BSPP System provides the holding heat requirement for an Isothermal Melter under idle conditions. Learn more
Conductively Heated Troughs (CT)
The World’s Most Efficient Aluminum with Low Energy Consumption, Virtually No Skimming, Low Maintenance and Huge Savings. Learn more
Direct Immersion Heaters
Apogee’s patented, high watt-density, direct-immersion heaters operate submerged in molten aluminum. As the key enabler of Isothermal Melting, Apogee’s design uses a highly conductive material inside the heater, and either a chemical barrier coating on an outer metallic sheath or a ceramic sheath. Isothermal Melting
Isothermal Melting (ITM) is a very high energy efficiency electrical resistance melting process that produces zero in-plant emissions. The ITM process uses a continuous flow system where molten metal is re-circulated through separate heating and charge bays. Two innovative and patented heating processes were developed to enable ITM. Transportable Electric Ladle
In many cases, metal is transferred from melting/holding furnaces to pouring stations by ladle. Apogee’s Transportable Electric Ladle (TEL) is basically a shell contained refractory crucible comprised of BSPP heating elements. Learn more
